The King in the Kitchen is our new story. We will begin it this week, but there will not be a test on it until next week. Thursday night you will have to write the definitions for the vocabulary words for this story.
Our grammar will not be tested until next week either. Wednesday night please complete text pg. 153.
If you do not get a 100% on the pre-test on Monday complete the workbook pages assigned throughout the next 2 weeks. Our pre-test will be on Thursday Feb. 23. Final test on Friday Feb. 24th.
Study the new vocabulary olympics words. The test will be next week.
Study for the social studies test on Ch5 Lesson 2 which will be next Wed. Feb. 22.
Complete Math lessons on Wed. and Thurs. nights. There is not a test this week.

**Progress reports will be going home on Thursday. Please sign and return them to school on Tuesday Feb. 21st.

**On Wednesday we will be going to the HS for a concert by band and chorus students from the HS. Wednesday afternoon we will watch Polar Express and have hot chocolate and cookies.

**The Christmas concerts are this week. Monday is for grades K-2 and Thursday for grades 3-6. Each concert is at the high school auditorium at 9:30 in the morning.
**Wednesday is all day chorus practice at the auditorium. Members should bring a packed lunch.
**The choral and band concert will be held on Wednesday evening at 7:00 in the HS auditorium.

Assignments this week:

Study our new spelling list. Make sure you can tell the difference between the words when read in a sentence. Pre-test Monday. If you do not get a 100% Monday, complete nightly work. The final test will be next week.
Read and study Adelina's Whales and the vocabulary. Test next week.
Complete math lessons nightly. Test Friday.
Study VO words 58-72. The test will be next week.
Social Studies timeline is due on Friday the 16th. Remember to follow the directions on the sheet.

**Santa Shop is scheduled for this Monday. Please remember to bring your money for shopping.
**Next week will be the Christmas concerts. Each concert will take place in the high school auditorium. Grades K-2 will be on Monday, December 12 and grades 3-6 will be on Thursday December 15.
**The 4th, 5th, and 6th grade chorus concert will be on Wednesday evening December 14 at the HS. Doors open at 6:30 pm.

Homework for the week:

The Stranger is the new reading story. Study vocab and read the story for the test on Friday.
Review grammar lessons completed in class.
In science, we will continue to learn about magnets.
Study vocab olympics #43-57 for a quiz on Fri.
There will be spelling workbook pages nightly that need to be completed if you do not get a 100% on the pre-test on Monday. The next pre-test will be on Thursday and the final test in Friday.
Complete the math lessons nightly. There will be a test on Friday.
You will need to complete a time line in social studies. It will be due on Dec. 18. You will be given more information in class.

In the next few weeks, there will be many Christmas activities. Homework will change. Please check assignment books for changes.

Here is the homework for the week:

We will begin our new story in reading, Grandfather's Journey. Read the story and study the vocabulary words. The test will be on Friday.

Review the grammar sheets we complete in school. There will be a test on grammar on Friday.

In Science we will continue to learn about the human body.

Study vocabulary olympics root words for the test on Friday.

Complete all math assignments nightly. Remember to study your addition and subtraction facts if you complete the written assignment at home.

In spelling, we will have our first pre-test on Monday. IF you get a 100% on that test, you do not have to complete the workbook pages during the week!!!!!! Study hard for that test. If you do not get a 100% on that pre-test, there is another on Thursday and a final test on Friday. Also, workbook pages will be assigned nightly and corrections will need to be written for the misspelled words.

Review any notes we get in social studies. We will continue to learn new facts about PA! Chapter 2 Lesson 2 quiz on Friday.

***Welcome Back NSE and Welcome to 4th Grade!***

I hope everyone had a fun and restful summer. It is great to have you back, and we are ready to learn!!

This week in fourth grade students will be introduced to their new schedules and to switching classes.

We will discuss rules and procedures in the classroom and hallways.

Fire drills will be discussed and practiced.

Students are reminded to cover their hardcover books, get their paperwork completed and returned, and gather supplies.

Students should remember to show their parents their homework books nightly. Parent, please ask to see the book if your child forgets to show it to you. If we work together, we can make this a great year!

**The Olweus Bullying program kick off will be held Friday September 2.

**There will be a district wide pep rally on that day also. Wear your red and blue and show your Spartan spirit!!

There will not be school on Monday September 5 due to the Labor Day holiday. Enjoy your long weekend!!

***4th Grade field trip to Valley Forge is on Monday May 16th. Students need to be at NSE for 7 am. Please bring a lunch if you did not order one from the cafeteria. Snacks and drinks can be brought for the bus. Drinks must be able to be closed. We should return to the bottom HS parking lot between 5 and 5:30 pm. Please wear your blue NSE t-shirt and dress code approved pants/shorts.
***4th Grade picnic will be held the afternoon of Friday May 20th. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can enjoy our year end picnic outside.

***Tuesday afternoon the beginner band will be going to the HS to practice for the band concert this week. Lunch will be at NSE as usual.

***There will be all day chorus practice on Wednesday. Students must bring a lunch to eat over at the auditorium.

***On Thursday morning, all NSE students will be going to the HS to listen to the band and chorus students perform their show from the Wednesday night.

VO and spelling quiz on Tuesday. The big VO test is on Thursday and the final math test on Friday. Remember to study for the final tests of the year.

**This week is full of different events for 4th grade. Monday afternoon we will take a Bulleying survey. Tuesday we will have our program for Super Speller. The students will receive their prizes for collecting donations for the American Lung Association. Kick Butts Day will be on Thursday. Students from the high school will visit us to tell us about the dangers of smoking. On Friday we will have a guidance lesson with Ms. Prushinski.

Begin reading our new story, Jim Thorpe, and study the vocabulary words.

**Students should be studying their multiplication facts so they become faster at completing problems.

The reading and grammar tests will be Tuesday. Read "Encantado" and study the vocabulary for the test. In grammar, study subject and object pronouns.
In math, we will be finishing lessons up to 85. We will have a test this week so look over the lessons.
We will be starting electricity in science. Be ready to make a light bulb light!!

**Read Across America Day will be held this Friday March 5th due to school being cancelled last Friday. We will have special readers in our class that day and a lot of fun activities.

**On Thursday March 4th we will have an author, Patricia Herber, visit our school.

We will not be starting a new reading story this week. We will be reviewing Unit 3 and learning about different reading topics covered on the PSSA test. We will not start a new grammar or spelling lesson this week either.
Math lesson 75 will be for homework on Tuesday night. There will be a math test on Wednesday. Review lessons 71-75.
The Vocabulary Olympics test on words 52-68 will be on Friday. These are the same words we studied last week. The test was changed due to the snow day.

** Teacher ads are in the classified section of the newspaper this week. Look for Mrs. Nestor's ad and my ad and bring them in for a treat. Also, look for your speecial teachers' ads, too!

We will be starting a new story in reading, "The Great Kapok Tree." Read and practice the story nightly and study the vocabulary words. The words are located on the back of the Family Times sheet that will be coming home on Monday.

Our new spelling lesson will be on possessives this week. Take the time to study them and know the difference between the singular and plural possessives. These words are also on the back of the Family Times sheet.

Grammar will be on irregular verbs this week. It is important to study the words we work on in school and the words in the homework this week.

** Please continue to review and study multiplication facts. These are practiced every day. The more students practice, the faster they will get at answering them.

Practice reading your new story and study the vocabulary words. Also practice visualizing and generalization. The test will be on Thursday.
The grammar test will also be on Thursday. Practice subject/verb agreement.
The spelling pre-test will be on Wednesday this week. Those students who have not gotten a 100% will take the final test on Thursday.
Study vocabulary olympics words #1-17 for the quiz on Friday. This will be the first vo quiz of the third nine weeks.
Each night the students should complete their lesson packets if they have not completed them in school. The next math test will be next Monday.
Review any worksheets and workbook pages from Social Studies. There will be a quiz next Monday.

The math test this week will be on Thursday. Review lessons 56-60 for the test.

Our Math test on Lessons 51-55 will be on Tuesday. Monday night finish Lesson 55 and review the other lessons for the test. There will not be math homework on Tuesday.
Study Vocabulary Olympics words 88-100 for a quiz on Friday. The big 2nd nine week test will be next week. Continue to study all your prefixes, suffixes, root words, and words. All of you still have a chance for the VO shirt at the end of the year.

Only 3 days this week until Christmas break!! I am very excited, and I am sure you are, too!

Monday is our Reading, Grammar, and Spelling tests. We are now finished Unit 2 in Reading. Keep up the good work!
We will not get new Vocabulary Olympics Words until we come back in January. Continue to review all the words we have so far.
We have finished up to Lesson 50 in Math and will not have another test until January 11th. Continue to study your addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts.
Try to read a little each day over the break.

Christmas parties will be on the afternoon of Wednesday December 23rd. That morning we will be going to the HS to see a presentation by the high school students. This will really put us in the holiday spirit!!

Christmas is getting closer!!

This week will be our Christmas concerts. Grades K-2 will be singing on Thursday December 10th, and grades 3-6 will be singing on Friday December 11th. Both concerts will be at the HS auditorium starting at 9:30 a.m. Students are permitted to wear Christmas attire.

This week we will have a Vocabulary Olympics test on Friday. It will be on words 43-57. Study all the prefixes, suffixes, and root words along with your words.
The spelling pre-test will be on Monday. The final test will be on Tuesday.
Our reading test will be on Tuesday. The Grammar test will also be on Tuesday.
Look over your math. We will have a test coming up soon.
